Victor Harbor RSL

The Victor Harbor RSL Sub-Branch was formed in 1919, just after World War I, to support service personnel from the local area.

The RSL (Returned and Services League) aims to ensure programs are in place for the well-being, care, compensation and commemoration of serving and ex-service Defence Force members and their dependents; and to promote government and community awareness of the need for a secure, stable and progressive Australia.

The sub-branch furthers this mission by offering a range of social activities for not only veterans and their families, but also non-service people who support the aims and objectives of the organisation.  You don’t have to have served, or be serving in a Defence Force service to be a member.  A range of other membership options are available, including associate membership.

Over the years the sub-branch members have put together a comprehensive collection of memorabilia from a range of conflicts and has been researching the history of locals who have served in the Defence Forces.  The gathering of the local history is an ongoing project, but details about some of the locals who served can be found within the RSL clubrooms within the new Roos’ Club.

The RSL organises regular commemorative functions including a dawn service on ANZAC Day, a pre-ANZAC Day march and Remembrance Day observance at the Soldiers’ Memorial Gardens, located on Flinders Parade, opposite the site of the former clubrooms.

More details about the RSL can be found on their website.
